A general survey of American federal government and politics with an emphasis on the history and development of the federal Constitution and the federal system. The legislative, judicial and executive branches of government and their interrelationship with each other and the bureaucracy are examined. Structures, politics and behavior in states and local governments. A general survey of American state and local government and politics. Topics include operations, finances, types of political subdivisions, city government, county government and relations between local and state governments. (F, S) ND:SS

POLS 225: Comparative Politics I

Study of the nature of contemporary political communities around the world, with emphasis on the United States. A special focus of the course is the examination of global and multicultural issues related to the problems of specific world communities. Cross reference: HIST 207. (F) ND:SS
