Program Information:
The Surgical Technology apprenticeship program at NDSCS prepares individuals to become essential members of the surgical team, working alongside surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nurses to ensure safe and efficient surgical procedures. Surgical technologists play a critical role in maintaining a sterile environment, preparing operating rooms, and assisting during surgeries by managing instruments and supplies.
This program is offered in a hybrid format, allowing students to complete their coursework online while gaining hands-on training in healthcare settings. Apprentices begin their clinical experience in sterile processing, building foundational skills in instrument care and infection control, and then transition into the operating room for advanced surgical support training.
As an apprenticeship program, students benefit from paid, on-the-job learning while earning academic credit and progressing toward certification. Upon completion, graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) Surgical Technology certification exam, positioning them for employment in hospitals, outpatient surgical centers, and specialty clinics.
The Surgical Technology certificate can serve as a standalone credential or as a stack-able credential for those pursuing further education and career advancement in nursing, surgical assisting, or other allied health professions.
NOTE: This program requires access a personal laptop and printer, capable of completing the assignments/testing required by the program, with a current operating system and webcam/microphone.
Award:
Upon successful completion of the required courses students will be awarded an Associate in Applied Science in Surgical Technology.
