Courses
UAS 111: Introduction to UAS
Credits 2This course will take a look into the utilization of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in various industries. Students will learn pre-flight policies and procedures, flight operation, data collection, and post-flight data processing utilizing Pix4D software. (F)
UAS 112: Unmanned Aircraft Systems Certification
Credits 2This course will prepare students for the FAA certification exam for the use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in business and industry. Students will learn the rules and regulations regarding UAS operation, as well as basic aeronautical knowledge required by the FAA. (F)
UAS 121: Data Collection I
Credits 2Students will learn the advanced principles of photogrammetry and the utilization of UAS for surface mapping and 3D modeling of structures. Also covered in this course is the understanding and use of thermal imaging; light detection and ranging (LiDAR); normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI); and other advanced data collection. Prerequisite: UAS 111.
UAS 122: Photography and Videography
Credits 2Students will learn advanced aerial photography, videography, aerial inspections, and thermal imaging utilizing UAS. Photo and video editing using Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Pro will also be covered in the course. Prerequisite: UAS 111. (S)
UAS 132: Advanced Flight I
Credits 2Students will learn advanced pre-flight preparations and flying techniques for UAS with and without navigation aid. Students will learn the techniques for flying UAS to obtain the best data collection including cinematic movements. Troubleshooting techniques will also be covered in the course. Prerequisite: UAS 111. (S)
UAS 192: Experimental Course
Credits 1A course designed to meet special departmental needs during new course development. It is used for one year after which time the course is assigned a different number.
UAS 221: Data Collection II
Credits 2Students will learn about advanced sensor payloads such as LiDAR and Thermal Imaging. Also covered in this course will be the understanding of how to collect these types of data as well as process and analyze that data. Prerequisite: UAS 121.
UAS 222: Data Collection III
Credits 2Students will learn about different advanced sensor payloads such as Multispectral and Hyperspectral imaging. Also included in the course is the understanding of how to collect these different types of data as well as process and analyze the data. Prerequisite: UAS 121.
UAS 223: Capstone Project
Credits 2Students will utilize everything they have learned to build a final capstone project for their UAS emphasis area. Students will create their own company, create a marketing video and brochure applying principals covered in UAS 122, and then will collect data and analyze data for a project in their emphasis area. Prerequisites: UAS 122, UAS 221, and UAS 222.
UAS 232: Advanced Flight II
Credits 2Students will learn advanced flying techniques without sensor assistance in fully manual flight situations. Students will also learn FPV (First Person View) flying techniques for cinematic video collection. Troubleshooting techniques and care/maintenance will also be covered in the course. Prerequisite: UAS 132. (S)
