Program Information:
The Human Lactation Pathway 2 Program at NDSCS prepares individuals to become International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs), healthcare professionals specializing in the clinical management of breastfeeding. To qualify for the IBCLC exam, individuals must complete one of three pathways. Pathway 2 involves completing a comprehensive, accredited academic program in human lactation.
IBCLCs are vital members of the healthcare team, responsible for managing and addressing clinical lactation concerns for mothers, babies, and families. While IBCLCs are not required to be registered nurses or healthcare professionals, some hospitals may have this requirement.
This certificate could be a standalone program or could be stack-able credential for someone already in healthcare.
Due to the adaptability of the certification and its value in a wide variety of settings, IBCLCs can thrive in a range of healthcare environments, including local, regional, national and international public health organizations.
This program equips students to sit for the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) certification exam, which is necessary to earn the IBCLC credential.
NOTE: This program requires access a personal laptop and printer, capable of completing the assignments/testing required by the program, with a current operating system and webcam/microphone.
Admission Requirements:
The applicants must be high school graduates or equivalent.

Award:
Upon successful completion of the required courses, students will be awarded an certificate in Lactation Consultant.
