In 1997, the North Dakota Legislature passed a law allowing high school juniors, and seniors to take college classes for both college and high school credit simultaneously. In 2009, this was expanded to include students who were in tenth grade. Dual credit provides high school students with a more challenging curriculum option and the ability to earn both high school and college credit for a course completed while in high school. Students pursuing dual credit can complete courses on their high school campus with an approved dual credit instructor, on the NDSCS -Wahpeton campus, NDSCS-Fargo locations, online or through ITV/IVN classes. For more information go to NDSCS.edu/dualcredit or call 701-671-2437.
Dual Credit: A high school student enrolls in a college course that also fulfills high school requirements, as determined by the high school. The course counts toward both high school graduation and a future undergraduate degree.
Early Entry: A high school student enrolls in a college course that does not apply toward high school graduation requirements. The student earns college credit only.
