The Automotive Technology program is designed to prepare students for the many employment opportunities in the automotive industry.

Students enrolled in Automotive Technology learn the theory of operation along with the latest repair and diagnostic procedures available in the automotive industry. Training facilities are in excellent condition and labs are very well-equipped.

Students graduating from Automotive Technology are fully employable upon completion of this program. Automotive Technology graduates are employed by manufacturers, dealerships, independent repair facilities, and private companies.

The Automotive Technology program is accredited by the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation, Inc. (NATEF) ASE

Admission Requirements*
The applicants must be high school graduates or equivalent. Students considered for acceptance must complete all admission requirements.

Award
Upon successful completion of the required courses, students will be awarded a certificate in Steering Suspension Alignment. This certificate is one of four stackable certificates for the completion of an AAS degree in Automotive Technology.

NOTE: Students may enter this program at the beginning of any 8-week period.  Please contact the Automotive Department for more information.

Powertrain Certificate

This Automotive Powertrain certificate allows students to cover brake systems, clutch systems, manual and automatic transmissions/transaxles, and driveline components and systems. Students will troubleshoot, disassemble, repair, and assemble components related to the powertrain and driveline of a vehicle. Repairing drum and disc brake systems, rebuilding manual and automatic transmissions/transaxles, rebuilding differentials, axles, and repairing clutch systems will take place. Diagnosis of noise, vibration, and harshness concerns related to the powertrains and driveline of a vehicle will also take place, along with discussions and diagnosis & repairs of hybrid/EV vehicles.

Students gain knowledge in operation, troubleshooting, rebuilding, and repairing of powertrain and driveline systems of vehicles. Work includes disassembly and assembly of powertrain and driveline components, measuring and adjusting components, diagnosing NVH concerns related to powertrain and driveline, and general maintenance and service procedures.  In addition, this certificate includes a theory and lab course covering safety, service, troubleshooting, and repairing Hybrid/EV vehicles. This course includes instructions for safe operation of various types of Hybrid/EV vehicles for the technician to perform general service procedures required by the manufacturer. Proper use of shop tools, equipment, safety techniques and industry standards will be covered.
